Privacy Policy — Sandhya Vandanam

Sandhya Vandanam computes the pañcāṅga and the saṃkalpa for where you are, and

can keep a record of your daily practice. This policy describes exactly what

stays on your device, what leaves it, and when.

The short version: **the pañcāṅga and the saṃkalpa work without an account, and

nothing you need for them leaves your device.** Data leaves only when you sign

in, join a Sangha, or send us a place suggestion — and usage analytics, described

below, are collected either way.

What stays on your device

None of the following is transmitted to us or to anyone else:

• Your location. Coordinates are used on the device to compute sunrise,

sunset, the pañcāṅga elements and the geography recited in the saṃkalpa — the

dvīpa, the kṣetra direction, the rivers, the city. They are not sent anywhere.

The one exception is a place suggestion, described below, which you choose to

send.

• Your name and gotram, if you enter them for the saṃkalpa.
• Your settings — language, script, theme, anchor kṣetra, reminder times,

japa counts held locally.

Deleting the app removes all of it.

What we collect from everyone

Usage analytics, through Google Firebase Analytics, whether or not you have

an account:

• which sandhyās you mark complete, and the japa count recorded with them
• japa sessions, calendar and statistics screens opened, reminders set,

settings toggled

• the automatic measurements Firebase collects with any app: app opens, session

length, device model, operating system, app version and approximate

(country-level) region derived from your IP address

This tells us which parts of the app are used. It is not sold, and it is not

used for advertising. There are no advertising or tracking SDKs in the app.

What we collect only if you sign in

Signing in is optional and is needed only for streaks, statistics and Sangha.

If you sign in with Google or Apple we receive, and store in Google Firebase:

• Your email address and display name, from the sign-in provider. Sign in

with Apple lets you hide your real address; if you do, we only ever see the

relay address Apple gives us.

• Your practice record — which sandhyās you completed on which dates, your

streak, and your japa totals.

• A notification token, if you allow reminders, so that reminders can reach

your device.

What other people can see

If you create or join a Sangha, that group stores its name, its invite code,

the members' account identifiers and the members' display names. Every

member of that group can see the other members' names and their sandhyā

completion counts — that is the point of a Sangha, and it is worth knowing

before you join one. Leaving a group removes you from it.

Nothing else you do is visible to other users.

Place suggestions

If you send a place suggestion from the Atlas, we receive what you typed — the

current name, the Indic name, its source and any notes — **together with the

coordinates you were standing at** and your account identifier, so we can check

the suggestion and follow it up. Suggestions are reviewed by hand and may be

added to the app's place data. Do not send a suggestion if you would rather not

share where you are.

Who processes this data

• Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Analytics, Cloud Messaging) —

stores the account and practice data described above.

• Apple — if you use Sign in with Apple.

The app also downloads pañcāṅga data for future years from

panchangam.sringeri.net. That is a plain read; nothing about you is sent with

it, though as with any web request the server sees your IP address.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages and has nothing directed at children. If you

create an account, the sign-in provider's own age rules apply.

Keeping and deleting your data

Practice data is kept for as long as your account exists, so your streaks and

history survive reinstalling the app.

You can sign out at any time from Settings, which stops any further data

being recorded.

Settings → Delete account removes everything permanently: your sign-in and

profile, your sandhyā record, streak and japa totals, your name and membership

in every Sangha you had joined, and any place suggestions you sent. It cannot be

undone, and the pañcāṅga and saṃkalpa go on working without an account. If you

would rather we did it for you, write to the address below.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes

will be announced in the app.
